Good morning everyone. Welcome to all of the new GMs who joined the league in recent weeks. It is always refreshing to see new blood join the sim ranks and look forward to watching you all build teams to compete for a title. Good luck to all of you this season and beyond. Also wanted to give a shoutout to Wig for once again fixing the simputer and resetting my node. It is good to be back on TV after a couple of seasons in the dark. Lastly, my heartiest congratulations to Cassius Winston on your recent induction into the PBSL Hall of Fame. It is truly a well-deserved honor for Sir Winston.
Now onto the Grizzlies. Last season reminded me of my early 76ers days. The Grizzlies were a team full of potential that enjoyed some regular-season success but crashed and burned during the playoffs after getting soundly swept by the Houston Rockets in Round 1. It quickly became apparent this squad needed an identity overhaul. During the offseason, the Grizzlies acquired Dorian Whitley and Lyle Galloway from the Spurs, GR De La Rosa from the Cavaliers, and signed Barrett Kuykendall, Elwood Berger, Paul Cassell, Joe Pabon, and Kraig Cornett during UFA. This is definitely an expensive talent infusion, but the sheer scoring potential and lineup versatility of this squad make it worthwhile to manage.
Overall, I expect to win at least 1 playoff game this season.
Grizzlies Country, Let's Grind.

Chet Youbetcha, Dimmadome News: What are your plans for your All Star SG David Bower now that you have restructured your roster to allowing people under 6'10" on your team? Will he keep that SG next to his name in any capacity, or will he become a post player again?
Also, any recommendations to the new guys on how to get points, given your ability to get out of tax jail in record time (given that most either quit seeing the bill you had or just go super inactive)?

Sham Smith, Bulls.com: I think everyone who was around remembers that when you won your championship, it came with the absurd idea to put Cassius Winston--a 6'4 point guard--at Center. Why do you think that worked so well?

Justin Bieber; Teremanan.com: You traded PG Dizon for PG De La Rosa. Both players are almost equal, based on attributes. Who will have a better year? Sir Winston went public and said his best time during his career was in Cleveland, and therefore retire as a Cleveland despite playing only 2 years. Any comments? Where's Superdog? Is Superdog scare of the Cavs? Who will have a better record, Celtics or Grizzlies? GM jlmarines just went live on snapchat, GM jlmarines is ready to give K100 a can of whoop-ass... are you scare? Do you miss 76ers? Don't forget to vote for GM jlmarines for GM of the year.

Are you still happy with your RFA decisions from last year? Do you see those contracts playing out well this season and in the future?

Still trying to figure out where Bower fits in this new scheme. My current plan is to continue with the status quo and deploy him at SG but since his athleticism took a hit in TC I will also slide him down to play reserve minutes at the 4/5 too.
And my advice for the new GMs is just to remain active here on the forum. It is really easy to earn points every season by just completing your depth charts, participating in pressers, and posting some articles and/or memes. Once your team is competing, you will also rack up points on the individual side that will also bolster your bank. Give it a couple of seasons and let the bank grow and hopefully you will either a have a prospect worth investing via training or enough points to pay off an eventual tax bill if you decide to make a title run.

Haha I think
Cassius Winston is grinning right now because he actually was only 6'1. I wish he were 6'4!
As you can probably see, Winston's unusual athleticism with 80 STR and his B in PSD made the gambit possible. I know it was a ridiculous idea but at that point in the season, I had nothing to lose. It was
Game 7 on the road and the Clippers were definitely the better team. I just wanted to throw the kitchen sink at Mamba because I knew he would never in a million years see that move coming. And if it blew up in my face at least Skype chat and the meme thread would have some fodder at my expense. Luckily it all worked out, and I got the last laugh. Sorry Mamba.
And #humblebrag, Winston is not even the shortest player I played at C during my title run. I rolled out the giant 6'0
Len Bias in my Game 5 clincher against the Spurs. I figured the gimmick had already lost its charm at that point but I was pretty proud my two little guys stood tall against the league's best. Sorry Eazy P.

jlmarines wrote: Sun Nov 13, 2022 1:21 pm You traded PG Dizon for PG De La Rosa. Both players are almost equal, based on attributes.
Wrong. They are complete opposites. Yes, both are pass-first PGs but Dizon plays good defense and cant shoot while De La Rosa has a great jump shot and is an average defender.
jlmarines wrote: Sun Nov 13, 2022 1:21 pm
Who will have a better year?
Dizon will average more assists unless the Cavs do something goofy (likely) and play Zike instead. De La Rosa will play meaningful games in the postseason while Teddy gets a head start on summer vacation.

Yeah, Winston loved Cleveland so much the Cavs GM paid me points to TRADE FOR Winston but then the Cavs GM BEGGED me to take him back by sending me EVEN MORE POINTS.

Where's Superdog?
Good question. Probably still out celebrating last season's upset win over the Pelicans.
jlmarines wrote: Sun Nov 13, 2022 1:21 pm

Yes
jlmarines wrote: Sun Nov 13, 2022 1:21 pm

Celtics but AB will find a way to choke during the playoffs. Guaranteed.

Overall, I'm happy with how everything turned out in RFA. No regrets at all with the 4 max deals. It is definitely not the most fiscally responsible move I could have made because I am definitely going to tax jail...again. But hey, title runs are supposed to be expensive.
Chief Kickingstallionsims - worth the max 100%. I never gave you props for the bid but nice touch with the player option on year 4. I would have done the same move if the roles were reversed.
Anas Mahmoud - probably an overpay, but only by about 10% I'd say. But I think Mahmoud will grow into the contract now that he is on a rebuilding schedule in San Antonio and not a win-now situation here with the Grizz. Cashed in for Lyle Galloway to make a title run.
Alphonse Morelock - doubt the stats will ever justify the max contract given the amount of other talent on the team, but I really like Morelock's versatile skillset. Still overpaid but I'll live with this contract.
Brian Loos - 100% overpay. Loos made the All-Star team last season so that was cool. I just really liked his potential and seeing him get buried on the Brooklyn depth chart made this an easy bid for me during RFA. I dont think this contract will ever live up to its cost because Loos is already in his prime but for a title run, I think he is the perfect defensive-minded big to trot out there every night.

Good question -
Frankly, I am not afraid of the tax bill. You gotta risk it for the biscuit. About 10 seasons ago, I ran up an even larger tax bill than this current one and ended up in tax jail for 5 seasons. It definitely sucked but right now I'm just having fun.
Welcome to the league. Good luck!
