S59 Lakers Preseason Presser (and How I Stopped Worrying and Learned to Love Bombing)

Hello everyone. Welcome to LA. It’s sunny everywhere except this side of the Staples Center, so climb in with me to our deepest and darkest abyss where existentialism reigns and a sense of purpose deigns.
We said sayonara to our greatest future player, Darius Garland, this offseason, and for what? I’d like to think for quite a lot, and that a Garland / Hodges / Leathers / Bates build was not our ticket to a title, and that we were best served reevaluating our standings sooner than later.
We went all the way with Delmar Lopez only to discover we did not have enough ammo to blow away our underdog opponents. We saw this pattern repeating with our Danny Campbell / Alex Caruso core and passed on that as well.
So when do we push our chips in exactly and make an honest and serious run to the top? That is the question, because right now we cannot decide if we should win as many as possible, or lose as many as possible, so maybe I should update my trade block before finishing this presser…
My trade block, hit it up
viewtopic.php?f=23&p=99094#p99094
Anyway, my Lakers find themselves approaching S59 much like Michael Scott approached management: button down shirt with the top two buttons undone, sleeves rolled up to the elbows, and a tagline of “Somehow I manage.”
So with that I will take your questions, comments, and eff it, I’ll take your advice too, because I have no idea what the frye I’m going to do, but either way I can’t wait to get it done! Let’s go S59!!!

Sham Smith, Bulls.com: Alex Caruso and Delmar Lopez both went on to win championships after you traded them. Do you think this is a case of trading talent too soon or is it a case of having good players too early for the finances to work out on an all-in team? Either way, what do you plan to do for your next build to remedy this?

probably this. yeah. When we hit our final year with Delmar, we had lost our supporting depth around him, and we didn't have assets to trade up to get that depth, so we sent out Delmar to acquire that depth. Enter Gerry Folse and Alex Caruso, both of whom are tearing it up in Detroit now. I gambled around a bit on some moves, flipping Folse into Danny Campbell, eventually, and I think it turned out to be the wrong move. Part of that was not seeing my offense kick off despite DC and Caruso being a nice combo, which I attributed to missing a star PG, so I flipped Caruso for Garland, and I probably stopped too short in my asks for that deal.
So there I sat with Garland (great but not greatest), Luigi (cool), Hodges (ok), and Bates as my core. What can I say? I scratched my head, looked at the Pistons, Spurs, Jazz and Clippers teams last year, and I didn't see myself competing with teams like those, even as all these guys started to peak. Again, without assets (besides a still developing into an asset Jordan Poole), I did not see a path to gain a couple more guys on Garland's level, at least, to be a true force, so KA BOOM. On to the next one. We'll see who and what emerges and go from there!
Having fun along the way, of course! What another wild Bucks trade that was, haha...

Got 2 questions for you
Do you feel any pressure that you need to win a title before the other aspiring first-time GMs or do you think those competitive tendencies have subsided at this point in your career?
And if you had to write your Sim League Superlative for the Class of 2049, what would it be?

Do you feel like you're questioning yourself too much these days because of said failures with Delmar, Caruso that it's beginning to hurt your current decision-making? Or at least your comfort level while making decisions?

I'll take that opportunity to throw a lil shade, thank you.
Newer-than-me GMs who have not gotten a chip:
ajburman, not really active, but maybe if he tried he could beat me to it. hard to say when he lets RFAs go and trades his #2 pick for *ahem* garbage. i seriously hope thats not trying.
Mratua, he's got that 'tua in him, so if he heeds the other 'tua's advice, he could beat me to it. Lot closer than me right now...
Blacksuperman, he had a solid build last year but not enough ammo this year. probably needs a new build before he's a threat to beat me to it.
Superdog, so, Killian Hayes will not live forever, so no, this guy has no chance at beating me to it.
jlmarines, everyone's favorite PBSL marine. I don't have anything bad to say about him honestly, but his teams on the other hand are generally garbage - a trend i hope will repeat this year because i traded for his pick, hoping his team was garbage again. So nah, i'm not worried about getting beat by this marine.
ACMUS81, whatever the hell name that is, gained a Fang and lost a Johns(t)on. Not a winning formula. Not a threat.
Mike Lowry, lest we forget, is Mike Lowry,
I love my boy but he's gotta start taking some advice if he wants to beat me to a chip.
Now... If I had to write my Sim League Superlative? WTF are you talking about? God, K100, PLEASE, pay off your tax so I can rival you cuz now you're just pissing me off

I'm questioning myself much less than when I first started in this league and I did much better then, so maybe I'm not questioning myself enough. I'm just naturally making worse and worse decisions. But honestly, there are so many ways I get fun out of this league, and winning grew to be more stressful than fun. That said, once I do win, I will dance on K100's grave with glee, that tax-jailed turd. And I'll have fun making a push to win when I have the right players to win, but I honestly don't know when that will be nor how I will get there. But I'm still having fun anyway.

Isn't that the same thing? I already busted, so whether or not I want to I'm probably tanking. My team kinda sucks my guy

My prediction for this year? That I’m going to suck. If you mean something beyond that, well, Saddiq Bey is MVP, Doug makes a serious title run that is destroyed due to a key injury to Saddiq Bey in the conference finals and then Doug quits sim league but not really and he trades me Bey for assets and then I have the best player in the league like when I had Delmar but I still won’t be able to win a title and many threats to end the league will happen along the way but SIM LEAGUE OVER EVERYTHING and then Roberto wins another ring after Scott can no longer pay his players and we all live happily ever after like sim league Anthony Davis.
