Spurs Presser

Post by Eazy P »

Hey everyone I would like to welcome yall to the San Antonio Spurs preseason presser. 50 seasons is a long time of being a GM of one team. Never knew I would have been here doin this thing called SLOE this long. Met a lot of great people along the way. My team had it's share of ups and down but at the end of the day I am glad I joined this fraternity all of those years ago. Looking forward to many more.

As for my current Team, last year's playoff appearance was a bit of a surprise especially being in one of the toughest division in the league. I was expecting to be lotto team with all of the youth I had on my squad but these guys showed me that they were ready to play and not just happy to be here collecting a check. We are looking to improve upon last season and hopefully make another playoff push while growing at the same time as a team. This will be a exciting season for my team. Excited to see what Montoya brings to the table this season with an improved Whitley and our floor general Yan. These three guys are the core of this team and if things go right in a few years can maybe make a deep run an hopefully bring another title to San Antonio.

I know this is short and simple but I would be glad to answer any questions to the best of my ability.

You know I have to talk about some former Kings on this team. Yandell, Dorian, and Montoya are a fantastic core but do you think their age may be a challenge in having everyone ready at the same time? Is it possible your team would look to cash in on Yandell to build around Dorian and Montoya?

A guy on your roster that I like a lot as an underrated piece is Douglas Harris. What role do you see for him this season? And how do you think he and Ernest Long will play off each other?

Sham Smith, Bulls.com: You red-shirted Gerano Montoya last season. With him making strides in TC, how much of Montoya will we see this season, taking into account that you picked up veteran Nickiel Alexander-Walker to go with a promising 2nd year player in Jessie Kavanaugh

How excited are you to be back in the same division as your hated rival Rockets?

Can you talk about your desire to bring in Earnest Long to the squad?

I don't think age will be a problem tbh. Yan is still fairly young at 27 and with the way Whitley and Montoya continue to grow and have good camps I can see them peaking just at the right time while Yan is still in his prime at the PG position. But if I feel I need to abort these plans and go into another direction, hopefully that's not the case, We will make Yan available to help him get to a place where he can win a championship.

As for Harris role he will be starting alongside Long and we will go from there seeing what lineups works best with this roster's frontcourt. I like all 3 guys Guyer, Long and Harris. I think Ernest can mentor Harris, show him how to play defense at a championship level. Hopefully they can compliment each other. One thing my team was lacking last season was a defensive presence but now I think these three guys together will bring some interior defense my team needs.

Montoya will be our starter at SF this season. I think he has done enough to earn the job with the departure of Glasser moving on to join the Nets. I wanted to give time to observe the team and take notes on how to play the game the correct ways and what it takes to play complimentary basketball. I don't expect him to be perfect tho but I hope he becomes the best version of himself on the court in the coming seasons.

As for Nickiel and Jessie these guys are going to be apart of the bench mob. I feel they can lead our second unit and hopefully not blow leads and can help out if our starters are having a bad game. I see them being a spark off the bench. I also see Jessie as a future starter if he works on improving some other parts of his game.

Happy to deliver those regular ass whippings again. The rockets won't need to waste their hard earned money to show up to the games knowing the result is out of their control. One thing the Rockets GM knows that there are 3 thing guaranteed in life....Death, Taxes, Spurs beat the Rockets.

Man me and you both know if I had the Cap space last season to get him he would've been here sooner. I knew once I saw him sitting there Day 2 of free agency he would be a spur. He was waiting for me to send the offer sheet. Too bad he wasted a season in dumpster fire in Houston. Long is a championship center that I haven't had in a long time. I know he's a little older now but think he still has a little bit left in the tank. When he was on the trade block I was trying find ways to make the money but just couldn't find a way at the time. Now I am glad he's apart of the team and looking forward to him and the bigs not allowing opponents to score in the paint easily.

Not sure if I can't answer that question but I know who won't win one and that's my rivals in the Houston Rockets

With the Bucks trading away some key players and the Kings being cursed in recent years—do you see this season as an opportunity to assert yourselves as the top dog of the Artest division?
Pacers Ring of Honor
P.Ewing (90-93, 98) - R.Pierce (90-91) - S.Augmon (91-96) - D.Brown (93-96) - D.Strong (91-97, 99-02) - P.Pierce (98-05, 12-13) - D.Williams (05-17) - I.Shumpert (11-16) - D.Dedmon (13-18) - J.Williams (19-25, 31-32)

You have recently engaged in a huge friendly trade with your division rivals in Sacramento. Does the alliance hold? Will you continue to seek mutually beneficial trades should they present themselves, or is that competition going to bubble over?
Somehow I manage.

Not just yet. My team is still fairly young but I think in a few seasons this team can do big things. Last year's team, at least I though going in was going to miss the post season. I kinda feel like they over achieved. The Kings are the team to beat in the Artest division right now.

I don't have any issue trading with good trade partners. Me and the Kings trade usually benefits both teams. I don't think it would bubble over. The two recent trades (BDJ and Lewis) both benefitted both of us.
