76ers 2032-2033 Press Conference

Post by Keepit100 »

That time of year again.

Quick recap, the 76ers finished S42 at 34-48, missing the playoffs yet again. What started off as a promising season, quickly turned into a nightmare after the All-Star Break. First, losing Glen Sabo for over 1 month was devastating, but as he was getting ready to return star Center Udoka Azubuike broke his leg which torpedeoed any chance the 76ers had at grabbing the #8 seed. But it was not all gloom, scoring went significantly up and the team featured 4 scorers averaging 20+ per game.

But as luck would have it, Philadelphia was about to become transformed. Despite finishing with the 7th worst record after contraction, the 76ers pulled their own Philly Special and landed the #1 pick to select James Wiseman.

We are very excited to have him join the team and look forward to watching him develop into a superstar in PBSL.

Overall, the lesson learned from last year was depth is important. Very important. Losing players to injury is a fact of the game. Teams that are well-built can withstand such losses, teams that are not quickly crumble. The 76ers will not crumble again.

Oh yeah, the elephant in the room.

Let me Keep it 100 - Philly's doctors just were not comfortable with Udoka's progress following the injury so I made the most consequential decision of my GM tenure, to date - I walked away from the negotiating table. It just became abundantly clear that our strategy for the future of this franchise just was not what Udoka had in mind. Regardless of the outcome, the 76ers wish Udoka best of luck in Sacramento.

Alright, now that I got that out of the way - any questions?

Though you guys have missed the playoffs the past 2 seasons, there still was slight improvement in the win column. With the aforementioned loss of such a key player in free agency, what is the ultimate goal for the coming season? Is priority #1 to get into contention or make moves that'll allow you to continue the slow play for future success even if that is at the expense of possible playoff berths now?

Definitely a team going through some significant growing pains. It will be a slow march to PBSL championship glory, but I am confident now that the 76ers have their franchise centerpiece in James Wiseman with Glen Sabo, Myles Powell, and John Blakemore alongside to form the core of 76ers basketball for the foreseeable future.

Sham Smith, Bulls.com: With better options available at the positions he plays--for now--what role will James Wiseman have on the 76ers this year?

We expect him to play some because we have been quite impressed with his high-energy during TC, but he will come off the bench at least to start. I know the fans want to see him in action but we will take this process slowly. We are excited about his flexibility given he has experience at the 3, 4, and 5 spots. We shall see as the season unfolds.

Start with Ronald Small because of his defensive prowess - as the season rolls along, begin to transition to Blakemore, mixing in Horsley and Birdsong for the bumps along the way

Wiseman was recently sent to work on his blocking and bulk up. Is this a sign for the future that Wiseman will be playing either the Center or Power Foward position?

Good eye - keeping our options open, because of his size PF/C would be a natural fit but we are going to experiment all over the court because he has quickly developed an outside game that could make him an intriguing stretch-4

How long do you expect the Sixers growth period to take? When will they become a serious contender for gold?
Somehow I manage.

I'd give it another 2 years to make some serious noise - TC was a success for the younger crew so another 1-2 good TCs away from contending.

What kind of special team giveaways do you think this team can do to spice up attendance this year ahead?

You’ve made it known you plan on Boban-ing Wiseman. How many seasons do you expect before he becomes as productive?
