2017-2018 MIP Campaigning Thread (Due Saturday, 11/18 @ 11:59 PM Central)

Post by garbageman »

Do you have a player on your team (or on someone else's team) who has put in the hard work to be less bad than last year? Or more good than last year?

SHOW US WHAT YOU GOT by campaigning below!

RULE FOR THREADS: You are allowed to make one post about yourself (edits of your original post will be allowed) or another GM. There will NOT be any goading or attacking other candidates to create nonsense drama like previous years. Any additional BS posted in threads will be deleted. The campaigning period officially ends at the deadline listed below.

Campaigning begins now until 11:59 PM on 11/18.

I'll nominate future Garbage Time Allstar Byron Odell of the Washington Wizards, unless J2 would prefer to toot his own horn.

*nothing from J2, so here goes*

I'm nominating Byron Odell of the Washington Wizards. "Who the hell is he" you may be asking- just click the link.

When the trade of Byron Odell for 6 points was announced, many GMs shook their heads. The previous season, Odell averaged a mere 4.7 points and 1.9 rebounds in 13.2 minutes per game. A 12.8 PER, .536 TS%, and EWA of 0.8 looked awful. This clearly had to be a delusion of grandeur to acquire a yellow/yellow of this caliber.

Except it wasn't- Byron Odell was the leading scorer for the Wizards this year. Starting all 82 games, Odell averaged 17.2 points per game, 4.1 rebounds, and 2 assists in 29.3 minutes per game. "Well the Wiz stunk this year, this was just a looter in a riot situation." But then one looks at the efficiency- TS% of .597, 20.3 PER and 10.5 EWA. Seems pretty damn efficient. He was even the league leader in FT%, shooting .923 (and earning J2 one sweet, sweet point).

With that, I submit Byron Odell for MIP of the 2017-2018 season.

I'm going to nominate my own John Guy, who really improved from last season: http://pbsl.ijbl.net/players/player104.htm

Last season, he averaged 4.8 points, 2.9 rebounds, and 0.6 assists per 13 minutes. This season, he's averaging 13.2 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 1.1 assists per 29.5 minutes.

I had him for most of the year, so I'm gonna go ahead and nominate Jimmer Fredette. Having never been given a real chance in this league to show his potential, he was always a deep bench player. Upon being given that opportunity, he turned into a 17 ppg scorer as opposed to the 6.7 he was scoring last year.

The Chicago Bulls would like to nominate Victor Oladipo (http://pbsl.ijbl.net/players/player581.htm)

While I looked at my roster and saw a lot of young guys doing better overall, most of that was due to minutes increases. Victor played the same amount of minutes and pretty much unilaterally improved over last year's stats.

PPG: 20.7 -> 24.0
RPG: 4.2 -> 4.8
AST: 4.5 -> 4.6
TO: 2.2 -> 2.1
A/T: 2.08 -> 2.16
STL: 1.9 -> 2.2
BLK: .2 -> .3
PF: 2.9 -> 2.8
FG%: .471 -> .488
3P%: .428 -> .431
TS%: .572 -> .593
PPS: 1.21 -> 1.25
PER: 20.3 -> 24.2
VA: 434 -> 576.5
EWA: 14.5 -> 19.2

In just 18 more seconds played per game (<1 possession), Dipo has stepped up his game in every area as he continues to grow into one of the league's most dominant players.

I’d like to nominate Anthony “The Messiah” Davis for Most Improved Player. Why, you ask?

Last year: Not MVP.
This year: MVP.

Are there any other players that weren’t MVP last year that were MVP this year? I think not.

Edited to update Anthony “Basketball Jesus” Davis’ status as MVP.

The true MIP, as chosen by the game itself. DAMION MCNARY.

Dmoney hasnt had a large uptick in minutes, only 6 more mpg. However, he made some substantial gains in alot of efficiency stats, as well as your ppg/rpg/bpg.

Image

6ppg jump with a 3fga/game increase... while improving FG% by +10.3%. PER jumped 6, and PPS shot up .20.

A clear cut improvement without substantial minute gains. The game got this one right, fellas. Vote Damion.
