Welcome back to the Mavs annual preseason press conference. A few words about last season first, and then I'll move on to the rest.
We had a wild season last year. No one expected us to win any games except for ourselves. Led by George Hill and DeMar DeRozan, we closed out the regular season in style and squeaked into the playoffs as the 6th seed. Then we faced a tough Warriors team in the first round, and they quickly swept us. We put up a good fight against the future champs, losing by 1 point twice and losing by 3 points once. Each of those games could have gone either way.
Alas, making the playoffs at 42-40 and losing in the 1st round is still mediocre, and although pleased by our team's effort, we were not satisfied with those results. Jrue Holiday and Al-Farouq Aminu are both budding players entering their prime, but we felt that we needed to make a move to continue the upward trajectory of the organization.
After fielding multiple offers, we decided to send Holiday and Aminu to Denver for 4-time All Star LaMarcus Aldridge. Aldridge is a proven vet in this league who gives us the post presence that we desperately needed. We're thrilled to have him on board.
We also think we got pretty lucky in the draft with center Gerard Carlsen dropping to us at pick #18. Carlsen had a nice TC and at the ripe age of 21, he is showing advanced signs of maturity. We're excited about him. Don't be surprised if you hear this name more often.
We struck out on a lot of free agent bids this year, but overall it was a good offseason in Dallas. We're excited about playing in the new Southwest Division...a lot of familiar faces and one newbie! Welcome, NickMalone77.
Questions, anyone?
