I dont think a couple points are really an incentive to tank. I think teams tank at the allure of drafting a difference maker in the draft. Also, if we aren't going to institute anything to deter tanking then its kind of a mute point in my opinion on why a GM would decide to tank.ballsohard wrote:We had this originally in the old league and I liked it, but upon thinking about it again; i immediately thought it encouraged teams to tank.
I was thinking that all teams under the CAP would split the points paid by all teams that have to pay a fine. but its all debatable. General idea is those points should go somewhere.IamQuailman wrote:Prep, you mean teams in lotto not over the tax or teams not in the tax in general (lotto or not)?
I could get behind that.PrepP wrote:I was thinking that all teams under the CAP would split the points paid by all teams that have to pay a fine. but its all debatable. YesPrepP wrote:Also what would be the penalty for a team that goes over the tax but doesn't have enough points to pay their tax? Has that been addressed?
We can put it off as a moot point and dismiss the point, but it's a real worry. In fact, it may be the difference between fielding a team like Nick (Hornets) fielded last year, in one that could have made the playoffs or not or one like the Sonics. The more you award teams for tanking and not filling their cap, the more teams will do it. The other side to your argument is, they already get a reward of a better player, why reward them with points now because they chose to tank? This is already a min or max deal league and this would amplify the issue imo. I think if we implemented this in conjunction with a cap floor then we'd be in a good spot, but I don't like the idea as a stand alone solution.PrepP wrote:I dont think a couple points are really an incentive to tank. Appreciate the input. I just figured if the points being taken from teams over the cap weren't going to any use that this could be an option. Similar to what happens with the money paid by teams over the cap in the NBA.
I was just about to say a cap floor would help with the tanking concerns. but if we are worried about tanking then why aren't we looking at deterrents against it?ballsohard wrote:We can put it off as a moot point and dismiss the point, but it's a real worry. Thats a good suggestion also. but what if one of them is a team that paid the tax? do they also get to split the points or are they exempt?NOLa. wrote:Salary floor is a good start but teams will just grossly overpay Y/Y players for one year contracts to be sure they make the threshold.
I like Soundwaves idea about perfect DC participants sharing the lux tax pot
Thats not really a bad thing. Could keep a guy like Predrag Danilovic out of FFA situations. We'd have to hope those bids on those FAs would be for the most talented of the later tier players, but can't really control everything.NOLa. wrote:Salary floor is a good start but teams will just grossly overpay Y/Y players for one year contracts to be sure they make the threshold.

A VIP betting thread where only perfect DC submitters can go to bet the lux tax points they earned against each other on real games.ballsohard wrote:We actually talked about other ways to do something, like a tournament or some of the betting not concerning the league; and maybe say if you had perfect attendance, you can enter?
