Race for Playoff MVP

Post by 78# »

Playoffs have taken off into the second round after a blistering first round. Many players are capable of winning playoffs MVP, but only one can lead his team to the crown. Countdown from 8 all the way to 1.

Number 8 - Chris Paul - Cleveland Cavaliers

CP22 stirs the drink for the Cavs, but they're in a tough series against the loaded colorful Atlanta Hawks. CP22 has a PER of 18 and leads the Cavs in EWA with 1.1 which almost doubles Marc Gasol and Carlos Boozer. However, in order to get that coveted Playoff MVP, the Cavs are going to have to turn it around against the vaunted Hawks.

Number 7 - Al Jefferson - Miami Heat

Jefferson was close to winning the Heat's first ever title last season and arguably would have won Playoffs MVP. This playoffs he's leading the Heat in points, rebounds, and EWA. However with the case of Chris Paul, Jefferson has a tough task leading the Heat against the 76ers and the powerful frontcourt of Tyson Chandler and Amare Stoudamire. However without Lebron James, the Heat will be in deep trouble against the Sixers.

Number 6 - Steph Curry - Golden State Warriors

The Warriors have a tough job going up against the invincible Kevin Durant and the Clippers. Plus, one could argue Zach Randolph would be a legit MVP candidate for the Warriors. However Curry's TS%, PER, and EWA are highest on the team. If he can somehow lead the team past Durant, the sky could be the limit for Curry and the Warriors.

Number 5 - Derrick Rose - Portland Jail Blazers

Ever since the injury of Ron Artest (an obvious poison pill placed by the Milwaukee Bucks), Rose has been a true MVP for the Blazers. First leading them to the playoffs despite the Artest injury and then being big difference maker in the upset against the defending champs LOLSpurs. However, Rose has to now lead the Blazers against the dominant Chris Bosh.

Number 4 - Chris Bosh - Minnesota Timberwolves

One could make the case that Bosh could be the most do Aminant force in the league, though LA folks may scoff at that. However, he's leading the playoffs in scoring and is unguardable in the pain. The question will be can he lead the Wolves as underdogs against Durant, and either the Heat/76ers. He's capable of a whole lot, but getting to the WCFs may be a reasonable goal for the Wolves. However, don't ever count out a stud like Bosh.

Number 3 - Kevin Durant - LA Clippers

We can all agree. He is the best player in the league. He can drop 50-60 like it's no big deal. He can score inside and outside. He can defend. The guy is flat out unstoppable. However, the road to the playoffs takes a team effort. Can Durant get enough help especially against balanced teams like the Wolves, Sixers, or Hawks. He's capable of carrying teams on most nights, but the road to the championship will take a total team effort.

Number 1a/1b - Carmelo Anthony & Amare Stoudamire

The Hawks and Sixers are 1a/1b not only in the East, but the entire league. Sure, the East was down and allowed both of these teams to rack up easy wins, but make no mistake, both teams could easily get top two seeds in the West. The Hawks have a stud like Rudy Gay who's actually playing second fiddle to Carmelo. Gay would be a MVP candidate in his own right, but Carmelo has been the dominant one on the Hawks. And the Hawks are loaded across the board. However, the Sixers won't back down and they have a deep team in their own right with Amare Stoudamire, Tyson Chandler, and T-Mac. Amare is the guy on this team and he's taking the playoffs by storm. His 76% TS% is astronomical, even higher than Kevin Durant's 73%. He's averaging 30 ppg and has the Sixers on track for a collision course with Carmelo and the Hawks. Whoever wins the ECFs will most likely also take him the Playoffs MVP.
