Draft Grades by Team

GRADE: A-

Summary: The Nuggets were in an absolute no lose situation after getting the 1 pick, but it seems like they lost out a little here. This is no shot at the player they picked: Klay Thompson. He will indeed be an elite scorer and a good defender in the NBA and is all but certain to make multiple All Star teams (see can't lose), but it feels like they missed an opportunity to draft Ron Artest reincarnated. The Nuggets get an A- because their rebuild is starting off on solid foundation, but they took a risk by taking Klay.

FWIW - I took an offense/defense powerhouse when I selected Wade 2nd, and was left unsatisfied. I wanted to go all offense this time. His ceiling is probably lower than Kahwi, but his floor is higher, IMO.

Like you said, no lose position.

Grade: A+

Summary: What a day for the Grizzlies, who really did nothing to get this besides let pieces fall into place. With the 2 pick, the Grizz get the best player in the draft in Kawhi Leonard who projects to be the best wing defender in the league in a few years and a 10 PPG guy. Then the miracle of Jimmy Butler falling past the Bucks and the Jazz happened. Jimmy is an athletic guard with elite defensive potential who much like Leonard is going to excel as a 2 way player. No matter what the Grizzlies do with the remainder of their draft. They will be pronounced the early winners and will be a favorite in the West once these two players mature.

Grade: A-

Summary:What would a draft be without the Bucks making a trade for moderate gains? The beginning sentence of this is probably unfair, but it's a fun storyline. As always, the Bucks grade should always be incomplete until after the trade deadline, but i'll make an attempt. The Bucks selected a potential all world scorer PG Kyrie Irving and a big with solid potential in PF/C Enes Kanter. It's clear from day one that Brandon Jennings was just a pawn to be moved for the ultimate game of building a contender for GM Ian Quailman. Overall, I like the moves for the Bucks, as they grab two very young prospects with Solid to Good potential. In these two prospects they gain valuable categories in scoring and rebounding but I'm not sure if they got their "star" after a miserable year in the standings. The Bucks got players that are solid on both sides of the court, but not one who will provide anything elite on the court for years to come. Although they get docked a little for giving up a pick to move up 1 spot; they have set up a solid core with these two picks, and I'm looking forward to see what they do from here to fill the gaps.

Summary:the Jazz were in a tough spot as far as pick location. With all their young talent being on the wings, they would have had a massive gap at the 4 and 5 spot had they taken the clear next best player in Jimmy Butler. So, they didn't and they selected Jonas Valanciunas who's skills are errily similar to Enes Kanter selected 3 spots lower. While the Jazz made a prudent choice in terms of position and skillset, they had a couple of options here:

1.) They could have selected best player available in Butler and made a trade for a young big by moving C.J. Miles
2.) They could have traded down 2-3 spots and still gotten roughly the same skillset in Enes Kanter and an asset

I think either of these options would have netted a better result for the Jazz, but the future does look brought for this team.
