GM Roy:I...I just can't even this year. I don't have it in me to be here, Bill Simmons always bugs the shit out of me about this thing every year, I'm just going to let him take over.
Bill Simmons: Thanks Roy, in all of my years being a Boston sports fan I can't remember a more catastrophic offseason. I mean last year the Celts were leading the division most of the season, until losing it in the final sim. We lost a game 7 at home which did leave a nasty taste in everyone's mouth, but this team was in the finals the previous year, we just couldn't get a PG to save our lives, and Larry Hughes decided to treat training camp like it was Spring Break 1999. All of that aside, Roy was looking to this offseason for quite some time. The Celtics locked up Steven Hunter a year or two prior selling him on the fact he'd be paired up with Carlos Boozer for the duration of his contract. We declined Boozer's meager 16M team option TO GIVE HIM A Fryeing RAISE. We offered him $127 Million dollars and he decided to sign with Minnesota for $94 Million dollars. I will not say one negative thing about Minnesota or JNR, they are a classy organization and JNR is great GM and person.
This is about Carlos freaking Boozer, he's gone like his receding Fryeing hairline, and no amount of black hair colored spray paint is going to fix either situation. He could have gone down as some of the all-time Celtics greats like Larry Legend and Alonzo Mourning, but as far as I'm concerned I'll put him on the pyramid of Boston Celtic players with Brad Lohaus who played in one Eastern Conference Finals in 1988. I'll remember even Dennis Rodman more fondly and he only spent 1 season here in the early 90s. I remember going to those games my dad has season tickets and he never went. It was back when I was working as a bar tender in Boston and I went to every single game I remember a specific one on March 13, 1990 Rodman had 14 points and 20 rebounds in a win against the Pistons. Hell Rodman at least ended up netting us 4 first round picks...what the Frye did Boozer leave us with. A pissed off Steven Hunter that's who. I can't wait until the Soncis play the T'Wolves, I'm telling you there's more bad blood between Hunter and Boozer than there is with the Celtics FO and Boozer.
Carlos was well aware of the plan to decline the team option to resign longterm, but once he signed with Minnesota the entire direction of the organization was thrown off. Hunter was approached by Roy, and told him the next two years may be ugly. But we were committed to rebuilding around him and that would leave about a two year window for Steven to try to lead Boston back to being in the conversation. Hunter listened to the pitch, but mentioned to Roy he'd worked his ass off to get to this point in his career and he'd prefer not to throw any season away and if we could work out a deal he'd love to go to a contender. I personally hated to see Hunter go, because of the player he turned into here, but I'm happy for the guy to go after a ring.
So lastly Carlos I hope you're happy being $35 Million dollars poorer, when it's 2016 and you've just finished up a couple seasons playing for the vet min here in the league because your washed up, and you decide to go play in China to continue getting a paycheck I hope you look back on this decision with an immense feeling of regret. I truly do wish Minnesota good luck, I hope they have a great season, and go on a championship run in the playoffs. I just hope Boozer plays horrible the entire time.
Roy said I could answer the questions. Bring em on.
