2007 Dallas Mavericks Preseason Press Conference

Welcome to the Dallas Mavericks annual preseason press conference. A lot of changes are happening here. We're moving full-steam ahead.

Last season, we decided it was time to rebuild. We traded superstar Antawn Jamison to the Hornets. In return we acquired Richard Jefferson. Jefferson is a talented player with several years left on his contract. We feel very fortunate to have him, and we're excited to rebuild around him.

We had some pretty good offers for point guard Andre Miller last season that would have allowed us to continue to be competitive for at least the next couple years. We decided not to proceed with those offers, and instead we let Andre's contract expire so that his contract would come off the books.

This allowed us to get below the salary cap to avoid another year of the luxury tax. Now we're working to pay down our overdue bill. This should be done in the next year or two.

We expect this rebuild to take 4 or 5 seasons in total. But we feel very good about the direction of the franchise, and we look forward to starting a new dynasty in Dallas.

No doubt. We thought we were very close, but we just couldn't seem to get over the hump. Extremely frustrating, but it is what it is at this point. We're not looking back. We're excited about the future.

Do you have any special giveaways on the docket this season? There are only so many times we as fans can receive a white tshirt with the local ambulance chaser's logo on the back. How do you plan on mixing it up for your fanbase?
