S61 Mavericks Presser

Post by LazyTitanSmash »

What could have been? Mavs tried to skip the line and move from last place to a playoff team. We may have done it, but probably not, and we will likely be moving our best current player (He Hor) at the trade deadline because the rest of the team had a bad training camp.

Sending Hackney to the Celtics for 4 points last season was a rookie move and will hurt this season. So AngryBanana can thank the Mavs and his ability to Frankenstein Pistons Empire for his title when he beats the Lakers in the finals this year.

Draft night went well. Scoot Henderson looks like the real deal. The Mavs know he is the real deal because the start of almost every trade talk in an offer for Scoot, but he will not be moving. The Mavs will be building around him. There is no need to send offers for Scoot Henderson; anyone else is fair game.

The Mavs learned their lesson last season, don't try and play a season without a true point guard. So we made it a priority to get ourselves a quality point guard. It was time to make some trades. Trades went o.k. MexicanMamba knew the Mavs wanted to take a shot at the playoffs and sent over He Hor (the MVP) for quality, young, inexpensive talent.

We made some decent pickups in RFA and UFA. We got Chris Throckmorton in RFA from the Bulls thanks to a generous sign and trade with a garbageman.

In UFA, the Mavs kept open 64million to try and land Gerry Folse, but when Folse came out to Dallas for workouts, he looked around at the rest of the squad and knew they weren't going to take Training Camp seriously, so he signed with a team that gives basketball its proper respect (the Celtics). The free spirit of the Mavs did appeal to Richie Cuevas, and we are excited about the pickup.

The problem this off-season was: the young players were too happy with their new money to take Training Camp seriously, and the Vets spent the whole training chastising them instead of working on conditioning. Except for He Hor the Vets really took a dive.

For this season, the Mavs are a Fast-break 3point shooting team with no defense. We want to see game scores in the 130-135, or 140-135 range.

Tips for newbies from a second-year GM.

Questionable GMs: (Possible Slimers)
Angry Banana - Hackney
IamQuailMan - (sent the Mavs spam offers for Scoot Henderson for Cade Cunningham after Cunningham was traded to the Celtics. Not sure if he has a bot making trade offers, but something fishy is going on.) That being said, I am officially a fanboy of IamQuailMan, because he finally figured out the only way to beat ballsohard and the pistons. Meta game.

Chet Youbetcha, Dimmadome News: Firstly, I do feel bad for Hackney turning blue. I do think if I did not ask about him someone (Quail) was going to do it FWIW.

Regarding your current team, does Clarance Martin also reach near Scoot levels of being off hands? He is not mentioned in your presser at all. Do you not see him as essential to your team moving forward?

Welcome back to another season here in PBSL! As you continue getting a feel for things, what has been the most fun moment thus far? What part of sim league do you enjoy the most?
Somehow I manage.

I see Martin as part of the future, but Martin is not untouchable. I like him because he fits my play style; Small ball, 3-point shooter.

Though you have mentioned some of the growing pains you've had, which move that you've made to this point do you feel will have the biggest positive outcome on your future in Dallas?

Sham Smith, Bulls.com: How much floor time can we expect to see given to Scoot Henderson, and what role do you have in mind for him this season?

What do you think will make for a successful year 2 in Dallas both from your players' perspectives and for you as the GM managing the day-to-day business of collecting and dealing assets/contracts?

Do you have any more tips for a new GM other than not trading with AngryBanana and IamQuailman? :D :D :D

It's a breath of fresh air seeing an excited and active GM running the Mavericks again, thanks for being a part of the league! And thanks for the props (i think?)... I sent you the Cade offer before the Celtics trade went down and you didn't get back quick enough! It's all gravy though. Can I interest you in some Frank Daily or Douglas Haun? :ugeek:

The memes are fun. The drama is pretty good.

Trying to figure this game out is super fun. I like really hard challenges and this game fills that craving. I don't think I'm going to figure this one out for a while, and the challenges keep evolving because the other player will keep making adjustments.

You sent one offer before the trade and the exact same offer after the trade with the Celtics. What was funny about it was I had just been talking to my mentor about sending you an offer for Cade than the Celtics trade went down. The next day the offer came in again, and I was very confused.

Honestly, I want to make trades with you, but I am scared of how good you are at this game, so I might wait until I figure this game out more. Respect and Fear. :|

It was mostly props. Your moves keep everyone on their toes, and your comments and moves are on point. ;) Every game needs a final boss fight. (especially now that the Pistons are gone) :D

Really trying to make the playoffs without destroying the future to much. (i.e. keep scoot and my draft picks). That's the goal.

Also if I can get a better feel on lineup creation this season will feel like a success.

5 - 10 min. He's not ready. I just through him out there in Sim 1 and probably shouldn't have. So he will rid the bench unless injury.

Getting Richie Cuevas in UFA felt like a big win, even if it the contract was a little overpriced. Also moving from a 9 win team to what I have now feels like a win. I feel like I'm at least playing not just tanking.

This is a hard question to answer since literally everyone in this league know more about this game than me.

I guess I would say points are more useful than I thought they would be. They feel properly weighted which is impressive given that they are not part of the software (I think).

Your green yellow players have a real possibility of going blue in the future, especially if they are a high draft pick.

Inside scoring seems like one of the most crucial attributes.

Take notes on how the Lakers build their roster.

Don't try to go from 0 to Hero to quickly. It will shorten your shelf life when your at the top. (Unless your the Wizards with that warlock magic) :)

Also don't miss UFA 1 if you have cap space. Make the better teams pay in RFA and UFA if they want to keep their good player.
