NEW - Rookie Contracts Training System
Effective with the offseason between seasons 27 and 28, the league moved to the following system for training for players on their rookie contracts per 2015-16 Proposition #2 vote (see viewtopic.php?f=38&t=4895). The system is enumerated below:
ELIGIBILITY
Players must be on their rookie contract in the season that they play the minutes to be eligible (i.e., this system applies through and including the offseason a player becomes eligible for RFA; 4 years for first round picks and 2 years for second round picks. If a player is cut from his rookie contract, these benefits are lost).
Players must play a number of minutes above a "threshold" number of minutes to qualify for free training.
This threshold is 500 times the player's years of experience in the league during the year he played the minutes (i.e., 0 for a rookie, 500 for a player with 1 year of experience, etc.) - note that a player gains 1 year of experience if he plays during any game in a regular season (pre-season appearances do not count).
"Years of experience" is not the same as "contract year" - for example, a player who is left on the bench all year in the first year of his contract is still considered a "rookie" with a threshold of 0 during the second year of his contract. If he was benched all that year, he would still be considered a "rookie" with a threshold of 0 during the third year of his contract and so on.
TRAINING AMOUNT
For every 500 minutes above the required threshold that a player plays during the four seasons of his rookie contract, he gets a "free" training increasing a current rating by 1 point the following offseason. Just as with paid trainings, in order to increase a current rating, the player's potential rating must be in the next "band" up (to raise a rating of 0-20 the player must have at least a D potential in the same rating; to raise a rating of 21-40 a player must have at least a C potential; to raise a rating of 41-60 a player must have at least a B potential; to raise a rating of 61-80 a player must have A potential; ratings of 81+ cannot be raised).
A player who qualifies for multiple trainings (e.g., by playing 1000 or more minutes) may choose to combine the increases or distribute them among multiple ratings (e.g., a rookie who played 1200 minutes qualifies for 2 trainings and could choose to go +2 in INS or +1 in INS and +1 in ORB; a player with one year of experience who played 2600 total minutes qualifies for 4 trainings since he is 2100 minutes over the threshold).
TRAINING FOUL RATING
You may choose to apply any number of "free" trainings to a player's foul rating instead of a "current" rating on a 1:1 basis.
TRAINING ATHLETIC RATING
If a player qualifies for at least 3 "free" trainings in a single season, he may instead increase an "athletic" rating (QKN, JMP, STR, STA) by 1 point in lieu of three free 1-point increases as long as this does not increase the rating past 81.
WHEN ARE INCREASES APPLIED?
Rating increases from Rookie Contract Training are applied following Training Camp just as Paid Trainings are.
COMBINING WITH PAID TRAINING
Rookie Contracts Training may be combined with Paid Training; points applied from Rookie Contract Training do NOT affect the limit of points applied during Paid Training.
Example 1: A player is eligible for 4 points of increase from Rookie Contract Training, and has a 28 rating with a B potential. Paid Training may be used to increase rating by the maximum allowed 10 points from Paid Training - from 28 to 38. Rookie Contract Training may also be applied to the same rating to increase from 38 to 42 for a total increase of +14.
Example 2: A player is eligible for 3 points of increase from Rookie Contract Training and has a 28 rating with a D potential. Paid Training may be used to increase the potential to a C. The player may then add the 3 points of increase from Rookie Contract Training to raise the current rating to 31.

Re: NEW - Rookie Contracts Training System
By the way, in the interest of helping everyone start getting used to this, I took the time to check every roster for eligible players - I think I got them all but if I missed your player, sorry. The +x RCT tells you how many points of Rookie Contract Training the player will be eligible for in the upcoming offseason. By my count, we have 153 points of improvement coming this coming offseason.
Don't expect me to do this every year. :p

Gary Harris and Jokic don't qualify?
Re: NEW - Rookie Contracts Training System
Both qualify for +3. I think I skipped over the Knicks due to it being too soon after losing to you.

Also, it looks like the damn Ball family is taking over.. one free training session at a time!
Re: NEW - Rookie Contracts Training System
I think the increased development tempo will help offset the rawness in the college imports.

I don't see Jeffrey Duren or Kenneth Henderson anywhere

Just curious about Patrick Riordan I think he was a 2nd rounder who was cut, then I signed. He's on this list but is he still eligible?

Re: NEW - Rookie Contracts Training System
Just to clarify, this would be POST TC, right? Not prior? OG Rookie Trainings were done prior to TC, but paid trainings were always after. Just wanted to get the clarification!

Re: NEW - Rookie Contracts Training System
Question: Do RCT points carry over to the following year if we don't use them this year?
Re: NEW - Rookie Contracts Training System
No. Just like the prior rookie training system, these are "use it or lose it."
Re: NEW - Rookie Contracts Training System
IMPORTANT THING TO REMEMBER ABOUT ROOKIE TRAININGS:
This seems to be the most common mistake I'm seeing so far in the training thread... rookie contract trainings act almost identically to paid trainings for increasing current ratings - in order to raise a current rating, the player's potential must be in the next band up! You can't just train any rating you want.
So if you have a rating of 45, you can't train unless potential is a B or higher. If you have a rating of 72 you can't train unless potential is A. Just like doing paid training for current ratings.

Also seeing some confusion on how to work with fractions. They're rounded up on a PER PLAYER basis, not an overall basis, right?WigNosy wrote: ↑Wed Oct 18, 2017 12:21 pmIMPORTANT THING TO REMEMBER ABOUT ROOKIE TRAININGS:

Re: NEW - Rookie Contracts Training System
This system was removed in 2019 Propositions voting and is no longer valid.
