Re: Wig Liveblogs the 2014 draft
ACTION: The Rockets select Sean Kilpatrick with pick 15.
REACTION: Stop the liveblog if you have heard this one before. A team comes into the middle of the draft and finds only combo guards of dubious skill. Yes, that's what the liveblog thought. Kilpatrick might just be a good undersized shooting guard one day. Might. But with his lack of size and defensive skill he is going to get abused on defense. The Rockets already have an undersized "2" but at least Patrick Beverly can defend. The liveblog thinks that if this is the best the Rockets can do - and based on their cap situation it probably is - the Rockets are looking at another first-round playoff exit if they even make the playoffs.

Re: Wig Liveblogs the 2014 draft
ACTION: The Cavaliers select Tyler Johnson with pick 16.
REACTION: The liveblog understands the logic here. Johnson has great defensive potential and looks like he might be able to do something offensively. The liveblog reminds the Cavaliers that he isn't going to be able hold a candle to Chris Paul. The liveblog further points out dude is 6-foot-3 and doesn't have a lot of athleticism. The liveblog knows that players without a lot of athleticism that feel the need to show off their shot tend to post high usage rates and low field goal percentages. The liveblog might consider whispering to Cavaliers ownership that this kind of player is perfect for a team that is trying to tank, but the Cavaliers haven't looked like they're ready to give up and tank just yet despite diminishing returns on CP3 and Marc Gasol. The liveblog can't wait for the Alec Burks era to begin in Cleveland.

Re: Wig Liveblogs the 2014 draft
ACTION: The Grizzlies select Tarik Black with pick 17.
REACTION: The liveblog might be going soft, but the liveblog is grateful that another undersized combo guard who will fail was not taken here so the liveblog can talk about something different. The liveblog is a fan of Tarik Black because Black is the color of emptiness. Like the liveblog's lack of soul. The liveblog will watch gleefully as the TC gods begin to smite players. But not Tarik. Yet. Because the liveblog knows the TC gods prefer to strike AFTER a player signs a big money contract. And the liveblog is confident that Tarik is never going to get a big money contract.

Re: Wig Liveblogs the 2014 draft
ACTION: The Knicks trade cash to the Bucks in order to jump up a few draft spots.
REACTION: The liveblog is not certain what to make of this development. The liveblog only knows that the Miami ownership is upset that jumping up is no longer worth 10 points. It is only worth 3. That's not going to make the tax man happy.

Re: Wig Liveblogs the 2014 draft
ACTION: The Knicks select Tim Frazier with pick 18.
REACTION: The liveblog thanks the Knicks for allowing the liveblog to express the liveblog's hip cultural awareness.

Re: Wig Liveblogs the 2014 draft
ACTION: The Raptors select Clint Capela with pick 19.
REACTION: The liveblog came up with this scouting video while scouring the liveblog's extensive archives. The liveblog now knows why the Raptors drafted Capela... because Capela is the personification of their Eastern Conference Finals performance last season.

Re: Wig Liveblogs the 2014 draft
ACTION: The Heat trade the #20 pick to the Kings for pick #21 and cash (3 points)
REACTION: The liveblog is disappointed that the Kings have gone soft. Miami was drowning and they just threw the Heat a life preserver.

Re: Wig Liveblogs the 2014 draft
ACTION: The Heat pay their tax bill and immediately exercise RFA rights on Gary Neal.
REACTION: Did the liveblog say the Kings have gone soft? The liveblog is now impressed with their insidiousness. That life preserver was made of straight up solid lead. The liveblog thinks it is time to retire the nickname "Double Down Doug" and give it to the Heat instead. The liveblog thinks the Heat trying to retain Gary Neal after a 46-win season even though it will crank up the Heat tax bill past 11 is going to be sadistic fun to watch.

Re: Wig Liveblogs the 2014 draft
ACTION: The Kings select JaMychal Green with pick 20.
REACTION: The liveblog gives the Kings props for this pick. JaMightHave sent enough Green to the Heat to make their troubles even worse. Well played.

Re: Wig Liveblogs the 2014 draft
ACTION: The Bulls send Nick Calathes and the Bulls 2014 first to the Timberwolves in exchange for cash
REACTION: The liveblog is all about getting what you can get when you can get it but the liveblog is not entirely certain either team does well here. The Bulls obviously are trying to get rid of dead money to keep their tax bill low but the liveblog is compelled to point out you do have to field a roster, even if they're minimum salary guys. The Timberwolves are obviously taking a page from the Bucks playbook of hoarding a bunch of cheap young guys and offering blood sacrifices to the TC gods for a boost in camp. Oh, and sucking.

Re: Wig Liveblogs the 2014 draft
ACTION: The Wizards send pick #28 and cash (points) to the Bucks for pick #24.
REACTION: See! Even the Bucks don't really believe in hoarding a bunch of cheap young guys and offering blood sacrifices to the TC gods. The liveblog would like to state for the record that blood sacrifices to the TC gods don't help. The liveblog has it on good authority they prefer the souls of all derivative works of your DNA instead.

Re: Wig Liveblogs the 2014 draft
ACTION: The Heat select Justin Holiday with pick #21.
REACTION: The liveblog thinks only the Heat would draft a 25-year-old rookie at a time when they should be going younger. The liveblog realizes now that the Heat are truly trying to go full coltsguy on the league.

Re: Wig Liveblogs the 2014 draft
ACTION: The Clippers select Jordan Adams with pick #22.
REACTION: The liveblog would like to suggest to the Heat that this is the kind of pick they should have made. A teenager with nice defensive potentials who can at least fit a niche in 2-3 seasons if he makes no other potential jumps. The liveblog notes that the Clippers are hedging their bets here; Ben McLemore is a young SG with nice offensive potential. If you somehow managed to combine McLemore and Adams, the liveblog thinks you would have conjoined twins with a good chance of never playing in the league.

Re: Wig Liveblogs the 2014 draft
ACTION: The Wolves select Mitch McGary with pick #23.
REACTION: The liveblog is getting annoyed with the cat trying to take back over. The liveblog thinks the cat needs some catnip the way Mitch McGary needs another vegetable product.

Re: Wig Liveblogs the 2014 draft
ACTION: The Wizards select Furkan Aldemir with pick #24.
REACTION: The liveblog is not at all confident Furkan Aldemir is going to earn the Wizards the 13 points it took to get him via appearances on rookie teams, all-star teams, or league leaderboards during his career. Actual footage of the Wizards' war room is below:

Re: Wig Liveblogs the 2014 draft
ACTION: The Nuggets select Spencer Dinwiddie with pick #25.
REACTION: The liveblog is having a tough time coming up with something nice to say about Dinwiddie. So it won't. The Nuggets were desperately trying to trade out of this pick, even for cash, and the liveblog understands why. More to the point, the liveblog understands why nobody wanted to trade with them. The draft class is so bad, people don't even want the lousy million dollar guaranteed contract a pick at the back end on their books. That's how bad it is.

Re: Wig Liveblogs the 2014 draft
ACTION: The Lakers select Elijah Millsap with pick #26.
REACTION: The liveblog went to ESPN's stats department to bring you this incredibly pertinent piece of information. Elijah Millsap is the first 26th pick in the PBSL draft to be the same age on draft day (26) as his pick selection number (26). This is actually pretty incredible when you consider that this is something no number one overall pick has ever done. No #1 overall pick has ever been the same age as his draft selection number on the day of the draft. So the liveblog thinks Millsap is going to be something truly special. The liveblog is NOT confusing correlation with causation.

Re: Wig Liveblogs the 2014 draft
ACTION: The Warriors select KJ McDaniels with pick #27.
REACTION: McDaniels has some truly mad skills. Not sure the liveblog has ever seen a player rack up stats like this.

Re: Wig Liveblogs the 2014 draft
ACTION: The Bucks select Noah Vonleh with pick #28.
REACTION: Even the liveblog is sensing the end of the draft. And all in a single day? The liveblog will have to take over for itself more often.

Re: Wig Liveblogs the 2014 draft
ACTION: The Hawks select Aaron Gordon with pick #29.
REACTION: The liveblog is pleased the draft is completed as the liveblog no longer has to pretend to care.

Re: Wig Liveblogs the 2014 draft
Just noticed points were never formally awarded for this.
Wig, you can claim 5 points towards the 2014-15 media cap.
