Trade Rules and Restrictions
Trade Rules
Before submitting your finalized trade thread, please make sure your trade follows these basic rules and guidelines.
Trading Players
- You cannot trade more than 5 players/picks in a single trade (Points do not add to this total)
- You must wait until Dec. 15 to trade a player ACQUIRED IN THE OFF-SEASON (UNLESS player was re-signed in FA, in which he can be traded any time).
- You must wait 60 days to trade a player you signed in the regular season.
- A team cannot sign back players they had traded away and then cut by another team.
- A team with a full roster of 15 players cannot trade one player for two players without first waiving a player on its roster (or sending him away in another trade).
Trading Picks and Points
- You may not make a trade that leaves you without a first round pick (does not have to be your own) in consecutive future seasons - sometimes called the "Ted Stepien" rule. (Note once a draft is past, it is no longer a "future" seasons so whether or not you had a pick in the most recent draft does not affect whether you must retain a pick in the next upcoming draft).
- You cannot trade picks not shown in index (i.e., you have 3 years of picks to work with at any time).
- You cannot trade more than 15 Points in a single trade. In a multi-team trade, no single team may send more than 15 points, but each team can send up to 15.
- Points may only be transferred directly to another owner via trade. You may not "pay points" for someone else to complete your duties as an owner (e.g., counting up points earned for prior seasons).
- You may not trade "only" points - at least one pick and/or player must be involved.
- If a team is sending points, the trade will not be processed until the team sending points deducts from their bank and links to the deduction.
Team Trade Rules
- If a team is both 1. adding salary in a trade and 2. completing the trade would cause that team to be over the salary cap for the current year, then the "incoming" salary to that team must be no more than 125% of the "outgoing" salary. Please use the Trade Checker below if uncertain.
- No 2-part trades.
Trade Deadline: Usually sim after All-Star Break

Remember
- If your team is above the salary cap use 0 as your cap
- Do not use commas when entering salary.
- DISCLAIMER: Trade Checker may not always work.

Re: Trade Rules and Restrictions
This rule was lost in the fray of moving from 1 forum to the next, but we'll be sure to mention it in future FA threads.
Sign-And-Trade:
1) During Restricted Free Agency, you can receive compensation for not retaining an RFA that are about to lose via sign-and-trade. Player A (who played on Team 2 last season) agrees to an offer sheet from Team 1. Team 1 can offer to send some compensation to Team 2 in order for Team 1 to not match/retain Player A. In turn, Team 2 will match the offer sheet and then post a sign-and-trade thread in the Finalized Trades forum.
2) During Free Agency, a team may work out a sign and trade with another so long as the player played for the signing team in the previous season. These can be processed any time after that player is re-signed (no Dec 15 hold).
These sign-and-trade rules (while not posted on THIS forum) have been in practice since the early seasons of the league; I apologize that they were lost in the fray.

I guess you can remove the part about pick protection
I still got all my fingers but somewhere I lost my mind.

Also, this line can be removed as we don't currently use the MLE/LLE.- You cannot trade a player you have signed to an exemption (MLE & LLE)

Re: Trade Rules and Restrictions
How about player acquired in that offseason's draft?
There's no "I" in team, but you can find "Eat me" if you push it too far.

Re: Trade Rules and Restrictions
Offseason = end of finals until Sim 1. Acquired = signed or traded player. Execeptions:42PhD wrote:How about player acquired in that offseason's draft?
- Drafted players can be traded immediately. Once traded (if during off-season), they have to wait until Dec 15 to be traded again.
- Picks. In the Draft, you trade a pick to team X. Team X drafts player A. Player A then looks to the exception above (can be traded immediately).
- Players who are signed in FA that played for your team the previous season. If they re-sign with you, you can trade them immediately. This does NOT apply to RFA players who are signed. They can only be traded during the Sign-And-Trade RFA period (if not, you must retain them until AFTER the next RFA period ends... aka 1 complete league year).
If a non-drafted player is traded to team x during the draft, that player is not eligible to be traded again until AFTER DEC 15.

Looking better. Actually a table might work.

- Points may only be transferred directly to another owner via trade. You may not "pay points" for someone else to complete your duties as an owner (e.g., counting up points earned for prior seasons).
- You may not trade "only" points - at least one pick and/or player must be involved.
Added this because it was apparently needed. I won't police past transactions since it wasn't explicitly stated before, but this is the rule going foward.
Note: Points used for Sim Vegas gambling-type transactions are not considered "direct transfers" as you pay into Sim Vegas, then Sim Vegas pays the winner(s).

Re: Trade Rules and Restrictions
The first bullet point under "Team Trade Rules" has been heavily edited for clarity.
Before wrote:- Teams over the cap can only take on an 25% additional salary in a trade. Please use the Trade Checker below if uncertain.
After wrote:- If a team is both 1. adding salary in a trade and 2. completing the trade would cause that team to be over the salary cap for the current year, then the "incoming" salary to that team must be no more than 125% of the "outgoing" salary.
