Cleveland Cavaliers 2007 Preseason Press Conference

Post by 42PhD » Wed Apr 13, 2016 6:23 pm

Owner: We are here to fulfill an obligation, showing a modicum of integrity in a League with not enough. So we do our part.

Our free agency was ruined by an admitted error by the interim Commissioner, and no consideration was given to making any adjustments, save removing the contract we never offered from our books allowing others to bid on him while avoiding the tax we never signed up to pay, save roster moves we did not plan to make.

We returned the player to free agency since we never offered the contract, but we operated as if the player is on our books, effectively accepting the results of the unfree agency.

After a series of objectively verified and admitted League errors against our team, two since the regime change, we have decided to abandon our current plans, as our timeline... and timing is everything... Is ruined. Ruined when there were ways to salvage our offseason, but the League was too prideful and powerless to actually do anything constructive, instead effectively giving apathetic lip service and blaming the victim.

We will be unloading this team for sure, distancing ourselves from our carefully laid plans and patient execution that was stomped on in a fit of neglect, potentially selling and moving into ventures where integrity matter, and the business owners have pride in their creations to the point of demanding quality rather than accepting the injustices that go around.

I have never witnessed such a silence in the face of a clear injustice.

The Hornets and the Hawks did not fairly win some of their free agents. Multiple of the Hawks free agents, which says he has good taste in free agents. So, their seasons have asterisks they did not ask for. I say they were not fairly won because the bids from the Cavaliers were never presented for the player to choose.

There are more, but these were made public, so I am simply addressing those and those only.

I am sure I will be met with cowardly and angry comments and questions here, and we may or may not respond to those.

Our team is the same as last season, save Horford, who we addressed at the draft.

You should all be ashamed of yourselves for allowing this to happen to a fellow owner, especially when the real difference is not that mistakes happen to Cleveland mostly, but that Cleveland notices. You don't want to hear it, but I invite you to consider the evidence and the simplest explanation for it: the majority of the teams experience error via haste-fueled negligence. Inputters catch their own errors at a higher rate, which is perfectly understandable. However, until you stand up for quality, your will be given what someone decides us good enough today.

What is best for all is to not ask questions or make comments, so I have no responses to give, so I get credit for this by default and we move on from there without incident.

For the most part, I refer you to last season's press conference or our draft day media.

Anyone with discussion worth having, we are here.

Would the champ care to make a point, state some facts, stuff like that, or repeat what was witty in another context?

Congratulations, by the way. I am glad I seconded your nomination for GM of the year because you deserved it.

Yes. This is the place to be.

We look forward to any substantive comments from titletown or other places.

Your interest is appreciated, as is your comfort level with speaking freely here, where retaliation is not an issue.

From the office of the interim commissioner:

Effective immediately, the Cleveland Cavaliers are under league ownership (deja vu CP3, sorry), seeking a new owner and GM.

42, Thank you for your participation up until this point, but unfortunately, if you feel the league is so out to get you and that you are never going to be satisfied with the result, then there is no point for you to stick around. Sorry that things came to this.

Well - since you asked, I'll share my thoughts. Not they are more important or valid than any other GM, (and if you look at my career record, perhaps less-so).

Your complaints/revelations/whatever you want to call them related to inputting mistake are clearly not rooted in falsehood. There ARE mistakes inputting sometimes (though there have been times such as a PG playing SG and vice versa which are just interesting piece of the game that the Kings have ridden to a title at one point). I've had my DC input wrong in the playoffs and a couple of other minor issues. It's happened a handful of times since I've been in the league, only a few since you've joined. You're not wrong about this. And perhaps there could be process improvements in the input process.

However. The way you've conducted yourself on this forum has been the most sophisticated form of a tantrum one can perhaps have. I don't know you in real life, and from what I hear you're a good guy. The fact that you often reach out to offer extra game tickets only reinforces this in my mind. But long winded essays portraying yourself as the white knight of the blind are misguided. We know there are <expletive deleted> inputting. We haven't demanded process change because for us, the occasional mistake (even if it costs you games, or cap, or a player) because it hasn't detracted from the enjoyable experience of being in this league enough to completely overhaul a process that works a good percentage of the time. When you imply that we won't like it when it happens to us is a little insulting. We're not imbeciles (well most of us ;) ). We know it happens, you're not our white knight. We just choose to handle the situation much differently.

Oftentimes in your rants you point out problems at length without proposing realistic solutions and then complain when some (though not perfect, or even maybe good) ARE offered. You're clearly very smart, and pulling bullshit from fact, substance from flash, etc. is an important quality in most situations in life probably suits you really well. Here, it makes you look pretty douchey. The bigger the word you use, or more philosophical sounding the response the even more so. Now tonight is Kobe's last game, I'm a huge Kobe fan, so I understand you may not give a shit what I, or any other GM, think about you. And that's okay. It's even fun in certain doses, but that brings me to my next point.

Your posts are getting tiring. I know I probably look like a hypocrite after writing this essay. But you could get your point across in like, a fifth of the word-space. Do I read every word? Yes. I read every post on this board. I have to. I love sim league. And posts and threads you're a big part of are not even enjoyable to watch. Like the 82nd game of a lost season when your team is garbage. You go, you watch, because it's supposedly something you enjoy. But it's annoying, sad, and seemingly neverending. I don't like feeling that way about sim league, and I want you to know that's the effect you've had. Whether you care or not. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

And finally. Your current situation. So, most of the things that have affected you have not (other than the above) affected my team, the league, the nuts and bolts of the games I'm involved in, etc. But when the UFA debacle shit-show happened, you essentially hijacked one of our teams. And I don't think that's fair. Did it suck? Yeah. But as an owner and GM you have an obligation to play the game to the best of your ability, and to sit on your cap space on principle is laughable. Now I retract this paragraph if you actually put in bids and just didn't land any free agents, but there were plenty of usable, valuable assets to acquire this round. Even if you think you'd be better off without the added wins and talent to improve your pick position, positive assets net picks, points, etc. I think you should take your responsibility to your team seriously.

tl;dr - You're not always wrong. Your tantrums make this less fun. We know there's mistakes, but we handle it differently. You should run your team to win.

Respectfully,

The GM of the 2007-8 Denver Nuggets with a record of 0-0

1) Talk about a tantrum.

2) Lots of words being put in my mouth, not much of discussion directly with me, and no warning. I have been accurate, specific, and straightforward.

3) I offered many realistic solutions to problems and some that were not, always abided by the decisions of the League. I read every word of your post, Champ, and disliking my actions is appropriate, but so is disliking other stuff.

4) I sat on my cap space, said I was doing so, was not warned in any fashion that was an issue, and explained why I was, which was effectively leaving the consequences of Webber on my team without hijacking Webber from others who offered more than I actually did.

5) I actually wrote Wig to explain this to him, and we corresponded a couple times about the coming season, including offerings to help the Cavs that I refused.

6) I have zero issue with anyone here. Anyone. If that is not reciprocated, so be it. I have extras for games many a time, and I'm available if needed for something, including reinstatement if Wig decides to do that. Balls has my number if anyone needs anything, particularly help with math or nerdy stuff.

7) I stand by what I said, nonetheless. If you love this, take better care of it. Maybe booting me is part of that. Great. Do whatever it is. Just don't settle for defects in the long term when something better is in reach.

8) I enjoyed it, and, again, no issues with anyone. I'm always happy to buy a round for the League.

9) Someone needs to do the accounting, and I expect 5 points for this for the next owner.

10) Help, help, I'm being repressed!

11) This one goes to 11
