S71 Town Hall #2: Can't You Feel It?

Post by MexicanMamba » Mon Aug 12, 2024 5:44 pm

Sim 1 is through and so it's time to let yourself get irrationally excited about something involving your team.

Pick one player, one game performance, placement on the league leaders list, or team stat category and talk to us about what excites you about it and how likely you feel that the results can hold up over the course of the season.

Rules: 1 point if you give thoughtful answers, which I will award after the timer ends for responses. The timer ends for responses at the moment the corresponding week's Sim is run.

Note: Use approximately 5 sentences as your bare minimum for 1 point. If you write 3 long, complex sentences, you'll still get a point. If you write 5 3 word sentences, you will not get a point. Don't @ me.

Due: Sim 2 deadline.

It's nice to see Booger putting in over 20 a game after putting in like, 12 per game in the preseason, but he's the obvious choice. I like Mckinley Ingham at 7.5 million this year with early bird rights. Any contender with a need in the second unit's frontcourt should be looking at this guy. He's a solid source of blocks, defense, and he can score, even from mid-range. Even though it's only 12 attempts, he's perfect from the free throw line. He doesn't crash the offensive glass, and his defensive rebounding rating is best described as "sufficient," but I'll take a 14.2% rebound rate from a g/g starter.

Leroy Funk.

This guy did nothing but score in the preseason with limited play time. I gave him more time to start this season and he scored even more. First game of the season and he drops a 30 burger. Now he's averaging over 20pts/game and 8 rebounds/game, with back to back double doubles. I wasn't really looking for him to be a contributor when I picked him up but he has quickly caught my eye. He's earned the minutes and I really hope he can keep this going. I feel like he will be able to keep this up the whole season, especially with Ramos and Lee scoring about 20pts/game, this should open him up underneath to keep on getting easy scores. As long as our defensive adjustments don't take away from our offensive production, this could be a very dangerous trio.

Grizzlies are in first place. Kaminga is averaging 23/13. Dick is averaging a career-high 21 ppg. Rainwater chipping in a modest 23 ppg and Bane's scoring a career-high at 19 ppg. This team cannot be stopped on the offensive end. I like how well the offense is executing. Even Nika Muhl is contributing right now. We even beat a few playoff teams from last season so this was not some cupcake schedule. I'm excited about this team's future and everyone knows Sim 1 results are a great indicator as to how the season will go so I cannot wait until I beat greeple in the Conference Finals. Go Grizzlies go!

I looked through all of the teams I thought were contenders. I took a glance at the team stats, as well as the players stats. While casually viewing things from the toilet(my morning wake up ritual) my eyes jolted wide open. Mac is averaging a triple double? Goddamn. He's the ultimate do it all player. Bonified stat stuffer. But a triple double would be insane. I'm curious for all the veterans, has anyone in sim league history ever done so?

I don't know if mac will be able to keep this up. I imagine rebounds will be the stat to slip. He'll keep his double double on the season. Hell, do we even have pointe allocated for someone averaging a trpl dbl? Because I need it! The division/conference battles will be tough throughout so outside of blowing teams out. Mac won't get much rest down the stretch. If he can get a 2 month avg on this, he might have a shot!

It took multiple foul rating Trainings, but it's definitely exciting to see Jody Kinsella playing 37 minutes per game and only fouling 3x per game. Last season he didn't average even 30 minutes per game but fouled almost 4x each game. What it means is that Kinsella should be able to be fully unleashed on offense. The raw stats may not end up being career highs (but could), due to Jody having to share the offensive load with so many more good scorers than last season, but early indicators are that he may be the team's head honcho, or at least battling AJ Blaze for the #1 scoring option title.

JR Smith Jr. had a tough season for me last year, but he's off to an astounding start this year. Averaging more points than he has his entire career, this was my biggest surprise from Sim 1. He has been my affordable wing option on a team of unaffordable players, but last season he felt like a budget rental car, ready to move. Now? I'm glad we held on to him, because we have dangled him a bit behind the scenes recently. If he keeps this up he will be my favorite surprise and blessing this season, one in which Claxton appears to have quietly stepped up his game, too.
Somehow I manage.

Herschel Boughton is something I was for sure not expecting this season.

This season keeps going its usual ways with one sad thing after the next for me. Lew gets hurt eight mins into his first game, and I thought for sure insanity would follow. Instead Boughton did his best Linsanity impression. He isn’t perfect, but scoring 16 points, having a positive A/T ratio, and shooting .493/.891/.400 splits is a solid contribution from a bench guy that wasn’t expected to do much. He played so admirably that he was even able to get player of the game for a game. He has for sure given himself some added minutes moving forward.

Herb Jones. Turning 34 in February, 14th year in the league and just signed for big money I was concerned this was the season he started to fall off but he's started just like he ended last year. My favorite thing about him is his shot profile, as he's aged he's continued to rely more and more on the 3 ball attempting 8 threes in the first sim making almost half of em. If he continues that he may play forever as a role player

The Pacers are definitely Dan Spooner's team now but the way Herb elevates all the other aspects of the offense through facilitating, rebounding, and stretching the floor is almost a cheat code for roster building. The 3-point percentage will dip but as long as its around 40% and our team keeps winning I'll be a very happy GM
Pacers Ring of Honor
P.Ewing (90-93, 98) - R.Pierce (90-91) - S.Augmon (91-96) - D.Brown (93-96) - D.Strong (91-97, 99-02) - P.Pierce (98-05, 12-13) - D.Williams (05-17) - I.Shumpert (11-16) - D.Dedmon (13-18) - J.Williams (19-25, 31-32)

Kamari Brown is scoring at an absurd rate off the bench. I'm going to try and find more ways to get the ball in his hands because he is taking over the mantle of alpha dog from Remy Martin. Despite only playing 25 min per game, he is averaging around 24 points right now which is amazing. I really like this year's team build but trying to make everyone happy is going to be tough. I'm just glad Brown has taken on his new role with no reservations. He is such a great team player and really set the tone for a great season ahead.

Charley #FuturePiston Quick. Currently leading the league in both points and rebounds, this is a bad ass mothafukka. The Trailblazers are doing alright offensively, and currently have a winning record because this big boy put the team on his back. I think these numbers aren't a mirage, but something that will not only catapult him to keeping #1 in both categories... but also catapult him into the conversation (if not front runner) for League MVP. That is, Quick is in that convo until he's traded to Detroit and his numbers have to take a backseat.

Get excited about something from my own team only? I guess I'm excited that my plan of selling off my players and tanking for this season is off to a great start. Bottom of my conference and only 1 game off the bottom of the league. I still have my own pick this year so the worse I do the better off. I don't have my next years pick so gotta pick it up a bit by then haha.

Before breaking his arm Master P had a nice start to the year. A career high average in points. He's tied for 5th in points per game showing he could carry the scoring load for the team. Was happy to finally see him do his thing but that was short lived. Hopefully when he returns in 41 days he can't pick up where he left off.

For me, it's Fabian Hub from the Wizard. First guy off the bench, Hub knows his role. He is going to shut down anyone in his reach. Just under 22 minutes per game, Hub is averaging 4 blocks and over 1 steal per game. Oh and he won't be wreckless either. He averages less than one personal foul per game. Will that high of numbers maintain, I don't think so. But he will continue to be a force off the bench on the defensive end.

I missed the part about my team in the title, but Hub is still worth shouting out.

On my team, I'm excited about Daniel Johnson. It has been years since a real PG has been in Portland. He is asked to carry a part of the load in points, but his real value is in his passing. Last season, starting PG Gary Payton II averaged 4 APG. DJ is over 7. I could see some adjustment to lower his scoring needs in hope that his assists won't just maintain, but also, they will get even better.
