2001-02 Hall of Fame Nominations

Welcome to the call for nominees to the People’s Basketball Sim League Hall of Fame. The rules are simple. Nominate a player you think deserves to be mentioned among the greatest players to play in this league. Championships, all-star appearances, funny picture blogs: all of these things could mean enough to warrant a nomination. Each GM is allowed 1 (ONE) nomination. There’s only one requirement: the player has to be retired from the PBSL. There is no time restriction on retirement – as soon as a player retires, they are eligible for the HOF.

So what’s to stop you from just sending Alaa Abdelnaby to the Hall of Fame because you like his name? Well, first of all, he’s not retired yet, so you’re clearly not paying attention. But what else is going to stop you? We are.

Our HOF committee – WigNosy, RPF, Conroy, and JNR – will review the nominations and put out a ballot of those we think qualify to be elected to the Hall. And then you vote on those players to see if they get enshrined.

-Nominees on the ballot with over 75% yes votes get into the HOF
-Nominees on the ballot with over 50% yes votes (but under 75%) are automatically considered for next year's ballot ("free" nomination that doesn't cost any owner a yearly nomination).

Nominations open now and will stay open until the end of the regular season. The ballot will be released after the first round of the playoffs. Reply to this post with your nomination.

We had set the nomination cap at 10, so if we got more than 10 noms a year we'd pare it down to that number.

I would like to take this moment to formally nominate Reggie F*CKIN Miller for the Sim League Hall of Fame.

Before we break down his stats, let's do a brisk synopsis of his career. Reggie Miller was the tank commander of the 1990-91 Detroit Pistons. He was the man that would lead them to comrade-in-arms: Steve Smith. Reggie loved Detroit and will always be known for the following 4 years where Detroit Basketball was in its prime. While in Detroit, he lived his Golden Years, until the Pistons GM stabbed him in the back and shipped him out to the Orlando Magic in the summer of 1995 (<3 you Tray haha). From this point forward (not that kind of point forward, TRELL), Reggie became a nomad and a vagabond, being traded 6 times in 5 seasons (ironically starting with being traded to the Magic and ending with being traded to the Magic). In his last season, he was signed and cut by the Warriors before finishing his career with the Spurs. Long story short, his career started with 5 stable years and ended with 6 years of investing in Budget Truck Rental.

But let's look at those numbers and accollades:

~7 All-Star Appearances
~2 All-League First Team
~3 All-League Second Team
~Lead the Pistons and Mavericks to numerous conference finals appearances
~Averaged a career shooting percentage of: 49.2% FG, 89.% FT, 39.8% 3P (TENTHS of percentage points away from a 50-90-40 CAREER average)
~Missed 6 games through the first SEVEN years in PBSL
~Averaged 25.3PPG over his first EIGHT seasons (until the dreaded 31 year old mark), shooting just over 50% from FG and 41% from 3-Pt Range
~Over the same time, his Assists and Rebounds also hovered around 3-4/game

All-in-all, Reggie Miller did everything in his power to play some of the best basketball (from a shooter's perspective) over the course of his career while willing every team he played on through his prime to the post-season. He never got his ring unfortunately (although had he stayed on the Warriors, he would've seen his first Finals appearance), but Reggie Miller as a player made a niche for himself in this league and showed that he had what it took to be recognized for his prowess during his career. Now it is time to show him the respected deserved after his career and get this former Detroit Piston in the Hall of Fame #CentralPride

Charles Barkley recently retired as well. He just wasn't on a team which is why he's not listed on the transactions page. But he's not a candidate. He was an absolute beast for 4 seasons, but went down quickly after that though was still very good for 3 seasons after that.

No I don't. I don't think he's worthy. I've noticed guys who aren't on a team when they retire don't get mentioned in transactions. They simply get deleted. How depressing.

Yep. We'll do this one more year this way, and if next season has very few nominees, I'll ask to take autonomy of the process. I'll come up with my nominees and we can vote on the players.
