Bzzzzzzz * Clack* *Door Opens*

Officer: Prison number 1275 you have a visitor

Balls O’Hard: I have a name !

Officer: You want to talk to this guy or what ? He’s got a whole crew and a Zoom meeting with a bunch of people waiting on you.

Balls: I kind of have to if I want to leave this place don’t I ? Fine let’s go.

The Pistons GM walks into the room in orange jumpsuit and shackles, head down and dragging his feet, he sits down cracks his neck and puts on a brave smile.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Balls: Good morning all, and welcome to the Pistons press conference. Frankly, I’m surprised to still have a job after what happened but I’m thankful for it. And I’m happy to be here instead of explaining the ins and outs of a Sloppy Joe to Lazy Larry in the kitchen
Balls: I think our position is a fairly obvious one, we’re trying to accumulate points in a responsible manner to be able to get out of tax jail so we have a lot of other ability to compete, which is always the goal here.
Balls: Over the course of the last offseason and this one we’ve been able to shave off over 100 points off of our tax. I’ve set a soft goal to be out of the tax by the end of the next offseason before RFA however we will operate like we’re in the tax until we’re not. What does that mean ? Well if we have a RFA, he is likely to be dealt to a happier home. If we have guys with one year deals, they will be offered up. Additionally, if we have a talent that can net us future assets, we will dangle it to get returns in the future.
Balls: There have been a lot of teams that think they see blood in the water with our team and think this is the optimal time to strike. There’s been many many predatory offers and id like to just respond to those publicly. We’re not desperate and we will continue to make deals that are best for the long term of the organization, not the immediate future.
Balls: To that point; I felt really good about our draft pick this year in Daishen Nix. We feel like we’ve got a nice combo guard who has the potential to score and shows a great ability to develop into a rebounder and a turnover generator. We’re excited to have him on the team and watch him grow.
Balls: We are still looking to be aggressive on the trade front to get points for the tax as well as future assets to build a team that can compete for a championship. Any questions ?
Sham Smith, Bulls.com: Your strategy to get out of the tax makes sense, so no point in asking about that. What's going to be your strategy for playing sim basketball this season? Are you prioritizing getting wins or will your main focus be Nix's development? And what kind of lineup do we see you rolling out on opening night?
I’ve thought about it quite a bit and I don’t think bottoming out purposefully makes a to. Of sense. Season awards and wins are a good source of points. Add in showcasing talent to trade and I think we have to put the best lineup we can put there. I dont really think we’re a playoff risk at all even doing our best lineup!
Orange is a bad color on you, Balls. Will be nice to see you out of the jumpsuit again. The Pistons could look at lot worse for a GM in jail. How many wins do you think you'll rack up this year?
Appreciate the kind words my friend- I’d say it will be anywhere from 20-30 wins if I’m being realistic.
What do you think of the last few drafts and the lack of PGs coming out? Most would argue it is the most important position to build a team around yet each draft we are lucky to see one decent player come out.
I think there are 29 guys with only 5 being 30 or older out there with a 70 pass or higher, so I think the concern about point guards is probably hyperbole. I agree about the point guard being so important because in most cases they really just augment everyone’s talents. So that’s why they’re so sought after- they really can raise someone a tiger from what they’re good at- to something they’re great at.
