#SLOE: People's Basketball Sim League

Unless he wants to do it himself, I'm going to nominate Tani.

The Pacific was finally the competitive division he dreamed of, and the Sacramento Kings handled it with ease. Tani fielded one of the most complete lineups in the game throughout the course of the season. He was able to sign Jeremy Lamb to a reasonable one year contract, and later on in the season, he made a trade for Tobias Harris that addressed the only question mark in his lineup and improved the Kings to be the odds on favorite to win the championship.

Furthermore, the way Tani built his team is apparent in the game planning. Tani stuck with a team identity that worked...his differentials in the points and assists categories routinely ranked best in the league, and the Kings' prowess from behind the arc is unparalleled. The top 3 three point shooters in the league are all in Sacramento.

disclosure: skip this paragraph if you don't want to hear a sob story Season started out somewhat positive. I knew that this would need to be the season that I took a leap. McNary finally recovered from him broken leg. I went out and addressed my glaring hole that is SF, by getting Paul George (at the expense of Kanter and a couple backup bigs). However, I struck out big time in RFA and UFA. I matched the Ronald Small spite-max from the Knicks, but that was pretty much it. Brought in pretty much the then-G/G Brett Lopez in Round 2; we was my projected starting center. There were even talks about a big time trade for a top 5 player pre-training camp that would be a Dec 15 trade. But then... training camp happened. Chad Royster, DED. Brett Lopez, DED. Damian McNary, DED. All the work i had put in to building up the depth down low was gone in a click of a button. Not gonna lie, this TC really took the wind and passion out of me. It sucks to have a franchise built around a guy who gets his potentials smashed 3 times in 2 seasons (2 TCs and 1 Broken Leg). Continuously building around him, but then he continues to be the weakest link. After a few days of moping, I decided I needed to make a change.

Sim season started out okay despite that, going 4-2. That didn't change my decision. McNary was gone, and there was no convincing. I worked with the Pelicans on a swap that would bring back former-Buck Ricky Rubio, Timothy Pulley, and a future 1st at the expense of Damian McNary, Elfrid Payton, and cash considerations. I then quietly negotiated over multiple sims with the Magic to bring one of our top FA targets in Boris Hailey to the bucks for salary and the 1st acquired from the Pelicans. We also picked up off waiver Kyle Anderson to help shore up our wing depth.

How has this played out for us? Well, before acquiring Boris Hailey... we were 11-9. After acquiring Boris Hailey, we finished the season 47-15. Timothy Pulley has been a huge surprise for us, as he is looking like he could easily replace McNary's offensive output while being a nuisance on defense (8th in blocks); he could EASILY be the Most Improved Player this season. We kept often-shopped Russell Arciniega who has proven that despite his size, he is more than capable of being a starting PF in this league. Boris Hailey came in and did Boris Hailey things... making All-Defense 1st Team. Between those 3, we lead the league easily in BLOCKS (Hailey 6th, Pulley 8th, Arciniega 12th in league) and Defensive Efficiency. Ricky Rubio finished #1 overall in assists in the league and #6th in steals. Ronald Small came off the bench and won 6th Man of the Year. Paul George lead our team in points scored. Devin Booker continued to develop. Needless to say, this has been one of the most balanced teams that I have built, and it was almost 50% of this core was assembled WITHIN the regular season after Sim 1. We had to pivot. We had to find a new identity. And we finished 58-24 in a division that has 2 60+ win teams.

I feel pretty obligated to nominate myself, as I think I had a pretty solid GM'ing year, plus the computer named me GMOY, so beepboop.

I got under the tax and into the lotto in a year I had my pick. I have a bunch of guys with upside and none of them are too expensive not to jettison if TC doesn't bless 'em. I keep a strong core going into next year where I don't have my pick, and did I mention I got UNDER THE TAX?

Anyway, I got done what needed to be done, and even came out of it with some fun pieces. I will make the playoffs next year and hopefully beyond.

Nominating myself! We had a really solid season in Utah, capturing the division with a record of 53‒29. During the season, I made some pretty bold moves by acquiring key assets such as Joel Embiid, Kyle Lowry, and Brian Stark — all of whom have been immensely instrumental to our success. This is the 2nd straight season I've finished above .500, and with 53 wins. And I think it's about dang time we celebrate that, aye.
