For all those unfamiliar with the luxury tax, it's basically a tax that penalizes you for going above the cap. Since we don't have real money we use points instead and if you don't pay the points, there will be much harsher penalties involved, which will be listed as well. This is a tool to be used to help ensure people do not abuse the soft cap. So with the luxury tax there will always be a buffer. The first 1.5% you are over, you're not due any points. The luxury tax will be % based so hopefully it'll be easy to predict for all and we won't have to make a ton of changes as we go on. I also want to point out, there will be no math for you. I will make the totals by the trade deadline, and it is your responsibility to remove the points from your bank by that current FA period. If you fail to do so the Penalties below will be assessed. I also want to note, that this may not be a finished product. If we determine this is not enough of a detriment or too much of a detriment, we may change it before the start of the next season.
Penalties for not paying the Tax before FA period:
- Will not be able to use RFA rights on players
- Will not be able to hand out contracts over the min level deals
- Will be stripped of points until debt is paid back
- Will not be able to train players via the points system
- Will not be able to use points for any function besides paying the tax, including trades (unless you're receiving points) or the sim league Bracket challenge.
- May not make offers to RFAs (as RFA offers must be 2+ years and you are restricted to vet minimum deals which are one year only)
*Please note, as soon as you pay the penalty, ALL restrictions are removed. For example, if you didn't pay it but by the 2nd FA sim you pay it. You will be able to sign a bird year player above cap.
- Will not be able to perform in season negotiations with current players
ADDED 5/2/2017 FOR CLARIFICATION:
- May not make offers to RFAs (as RFA offers must be 2+ years and you are restricted to vet minimum deals which are one year only)
REMOVED DUE TO REDUNDANCY 9/11/2017
- Will not be able to offer Bird year players contracts over the cap
Rationale: You are allowed to hand out (only) min level deals to any player regardless of your current cap situation when you are delinquent on tax payment. This does not preclude you from offering a minimum deal to your own players with Bird Right if you happen to be over the cap.
