Rules: 1 point if you give thoughtful answers which I will award after the timer ends for responses. The timer ends for responses at the moment the corresponding week's Sim is run.

Note: Use approximately 5 sentences as your bare minimum for 1 point. If you write 3 long, complex sentences, you'll still get a point. If you write 5 3 word sentences, you will not get a point. Don't @ me.

Due: Sim 3 deadline.

Lots of teams had their finger on a trigger as soon as Day 60 hit. So? Who will reap the most benefits from their moves?

I have to look at the Bulls. It was not a move I anticipated from them, especially when their GM had me convinced that the Rockets are practically champs already (still no L's). I have to think a gm as savvy as gman saw a lot of value in upgrading with a couple of wing players...and I think Ingram may have been undervalued on the open market. garbageman is the type to recognize such a thing and pounce if the opportunity presents itself.

Oh, and the Magic. Trading their garbage for a purple potential. You gotta love it.

I’ll do the old me and someone format that has treated me well so far.

Me: if nothing else, this will create an avenue to get under tax cap again. Blair became dead weight when I was looking at my first few sim results, with a negative +/- and his play style not fitting what I was thinking I would do this season and in the future. However, seeing some of these other guys going I kinda wish I would have tried to package him maybe with Lew to upgrade. Also, this trade helped K100 pay his bill off which I’m happy that he can be active again.

Others: I think the best trade this season will be the Jr. for Jr. trade. Roberto has added another gunner to his incredible lineup, getting ready for his HW fight with the rockets for best record. The only concern I have from his end is if he gets the RHJ that showed up for me and the Hawks. However, I think his Gameplan will better use Harper then I did. Jon also got a great core player in Smith Jr, with Jon having the ability to pump points into him, unlike Roberto. Smith is just a few potential trainings away from being an offensive nightmare with a defense that will be good enough to not make him a liability.

I'll take the Cleveland Cavaliers here. They have the second best record in the Alpha Conference, and they just upgraded their PG to Darius Garland who still has a lot of gas left in the tank. The best part for the Cavs is that it only cost them 7 points and some big contracts. Chris Bow was putting in a lot of work for them with extreme efficiency, but the potential return makes it well worth the risk of losing a guy who's going nuts in a sixth man role. Garland fills a position of need as the Cavs normal strategy of giving the job to one of the same serviceable yellow current point guards they drafted and kept resigning for cheap hasn't worked out for them in the last sim decade or so. Garland's impact should be felt immediately, even though the Cavs are already on a nice streak. He'll add another dimension to the offense and the one two punch of Isaac and Vassell. It's simply the best trade jlmarines has made in his PBSL tenure.

I liked the Bulls/Raptors trade for both sides, but I'll focus on Toronto for this question. The Raptors struck gold when they landed Ingram/Jarrett on 1-year deals during the offseason and immediately swapped both for two former 1st-round picks, including a top-3 talent in Alex Fudge. I think Fudge is another one to watch in this trend of stretch 4s with incredible athleticism that took the league by storm over the past few seasons. The Raptors have essentially tossed in the towel on this season and should easily land a top 10 pick now to go with Kamari Brown, Gradey Dick, and the newest Raptor Alex Fudge. This will be a fun team to watch in a few seasons if everyone sticks around for this rebuild.

I also think it's the Bulls/Raptors deal. Good on the Raps for wasting no time cashing in, but the Bulls did exactly what they needed to stay afloat during McClung's absence, and strengthen the roster once everyone is back at full strength. To be honest, I was debating on trying to pry both of those guys from Toronto myself. BI is still a bona-fide star, capable of dropping 40 on any given night. Jarrett is a player familiar to Josh, and even as he gets long in the tooth, can play bench minutes at numerous positions and in the playoffs, position flex can be incredibly helpful.

Immediate benefit I'll say the Lakers. Puts them in Position with depth to avoid a Paolo playoff injury collapse again. Makes them very strong at the wing positions and this team is going to attack the rim early and often. I think the rockets and Lakers are destined for a finals rematch from a couple seasons ago and maybe this time the Lakers have enough to take it.

Long term I selfishly like that the suns were able to shed more cap, capping off a trifecta money reset going forward. First akins, then Mahmoud, and lastly garland. Officially on the youth train and in position to have a 1 year cap tank reset and come back next year strong.

The magic bucks trade was my favorite trade so far. Clauder for Hannon and Cedric Boehm is a win for the Magic. Hannon will be a starter on a playoff team so day and Boehm is a solid bench player on a reasonable contract. But Clauder is a star, like the number two or three option in your core 3 players. The magic deserve some good fortune after all the positive vibes they put out there. The Runner up trade was the Bulls/Raptors. Fair trade for both team. This trade highlights how generous the bulls are as a trading partner and I hope they get to resign Ingram after giving up so much for him.

I liked the Magic/Heat trade. The Heat GM continues to accumulate a ton of points and should be close to paying off that tax bill. The Okay Djamgouz contract is not the best value deal but I think it will be a valuable expiring contract for the Heat to get creative should they see an opening to trade for another player. The Magic should also be commended because they are really beefing up their defense with Frank Chavez and their earlier deal for Ebbe Clauer. This is the kind of trade where both sides got exactly what they wanted so it is a win-win for everyone involved.

I probably can't vote for myself, so I'll go with Raptors/Bulls. There is no question before the season started, Bulls thought Lakers is the team in the Alpha conference that can stop them from back-to-back rings. Little did they know, the Bulls were shocked to learn how good the Cavs are.

I think this trade was more of a statement towards the Cavs. The new kid on the block will not win the conference without a fight from the old OG. Credit to the Bulls for acquiring two more blue players and will cause many problems to the rest of the league, especially the Lakers.

The Bulls, Cavs, Lakers, all serious contenders saw weaknesses early on and addressed them for now and for the future. Ron Harper Jr. instantly slides in and provides an immediate boost to an already great squad on the second unit. The Bulls get an immediate need with BI and Charles Jarrett and it helps to bridge the gap until Mac McClung can get back to form after his two month break. Garland instantly helps to solidify and ease the load on Jonathan Issac.

Of the three moves mentioned, the Cavs move probably isn’t going to challenge the Lakers standing at the top of the Alpha Conference but it should help secure them a home series in the first round. I think Garland is a real dynamic point guard and my feelings on the position being known, was probably the most important position to upgrade in the game. Also probably the most gettable talent considering the options available to upgrade.

Lakers easily will reap the benefits. His team was already stacked by adding Hub and now adding Harper will ensure an 79-3 record with the rockets finishing 82-0. With Banchero faking injuries every post season, they needed a insurance policy in Harper. The writing may also be on the wall for Banchero's future as a Laker. Maybe this move will motivate him to show up in the post season this time around. That Lakers squad is looking pretty scary. Maybe it's time to just save us the hassle by simming the season up to the Rockets vs Lakers finals.

I have to give these teams like the Bulls and Lakers credit for not folding from the Rockets. I expected league wide kneeling before me, but it didn't happen so credit is where credit is due. I think the Bulls really needed to make something happen with the injuries they have and they've kept themselves in the race as well as having a loaded team once their injuries are healed. The Lakers made a big trade too, but I felt like the Bulls could have stood pat with their injuries, but you don't win multiple championships by standing pat.

The Cavs and it's not even close. It's not every day that one can add an All-Star without giving up... anything, really. Come, let's look at this deal:

Suns send
Darius Garland
Marvin Rademacher

Cavs send
7 points
Angelo Romero
Chris bow
Jae Wilcox

Suns accept
So, in return for Garland, the Suns got...two aging expirings, a role player (who's also an expiring), and not even the full slate of points. This is just a salary dump where talent is being given to the dumpee rather than points. And maybe I'm overvaluing Garland just a bit, but I feel like an All-star caliber player who perfectly fills the team's one major hole is worth a little bit more than a salary dump return. Even one y/g on a cheap rookie deal would've made this look a little less lopsided. Jlmarines may not win big because of this, but he wins regardless. Every other GM who made moves to improve gave up something to do so. The Cavs did not.
